A note from father Tom

There are probably as many opinions citing the "best" single malt scotch whisky as there are scotch distilleries in Scotland. To avoid arguments, I am providing you with a geographically based list as a place to start in making your own decision about the "best." The majority of the scotch distilleries below have an 'est ' or 'most' attached to their production or location in Scotland. Some of the best-known whiskies are on the list. All of our scotches are 10 years old or older. Many bottles of single malt do not have an age shown on the label. These are referred to as "NAS" scotches (no age statement). Age is not necessarily important. You may see more of these in the future of single malt scotches.

Lowland

Bladnoch is the southern most distillery in Scotland. Unfortunately we’ve not been able to obtain it….yet.

Central Highlands

Edradour made at the smallest distillery in Scotland. $11

Northern Highlands

Glenmorangie translates from Gaelic to "Valley of Tranquility" and has a history that stretches back to 1843. $12

Dalmore is made with water from the River Averon, flowing from Loch Morie in the Northern Highlands. $14

Eastern Highlands

Glen Garioch (pronounced glen-geerie) is made at the eastern most (working) distillery. $11

Speyside

(the area along the Spey River is home to no less than 50 distilleries)

Glenfiddich, likely the largest selling whisky in Scotland. $12

Aberlour, Father Tom’s personal favorite. $13

Balvenie, made in Dufftown. $13

Macallan, made in Craigellachie, Moray. $13

The Glenlivet, historically the most famous Speyside malt. The appellation, "The Glenlivet", is restricted even further in that it appears on only the "official" bottlings from the owning company of the distillery, Seagram. $16

Singleton of Glendullan is produced in a distillery on the bank of the River Dullen amidst the Convall Hills. $10

Balvenie 14 Year Caribbean Cask is produced at the same distillery as traditional Balvenie, but it undergoes a unique finishing process. After its initial 14-year aging in oak barrels, it is then transferred to casks that previously contained Caribbean rum. $18

Islay and the Islands

Bowmore, (Islay) the lowest distillery in altitude, in Scotland. Much of this scotch is aged below sea level. $11

Highland Park, (Orkney Islands) the northern most distillery in Scotland. $13

Talisker, (Isle of Skye) is the western most distillery in Scotland. $13

Ardbeg is nestled in a rocky cove right on the southeast coast of Islay. $13

Caol Ila is on Islay's northeastern shores, overlooking the Sound of Islay and the Paps of Jura. $16

Lagavulin was officially founded in 1816, but records suggest the area was a hub of illicit distillation as early as the mid-18th century. $20
